the blackSoil project remix contest results--FREE DOWNLOADS!

Post by Rahlo » Wed Oct 06, 2004 4:10 pm

Attention DJ's and Producers:

In keeping with the spirit of collaboration, exploration, and sonic mangling fostered by those infamous yet highly revered Abletonians, we at the blackSoil project have decided to open up the vaults and make all the acapellas from our most recent album available for your remixing pleasure!

In order to gauge your production skills, we will also be hosting a remix contest. We will be accepting remixes of every song on our album (excluding the instrumentals) for the contest, the best of which will be included on a new fully remixed record to be released this year.

The contest will proceed as follows:

1. Email Rahlo ([email protected]) or level ([email protected]) and request entry into the contest. We will link you to the acapellas, which you can download at your leisure.

2. Remix one (or more) of our songs with the freshest beat you can muster. Use any samples or sounds you would like (no biting please!).

3. Send us a copy of your final mix.

4. We will listen to it and say either, "this is bananas!", or "this is horrible!"

5. The top three remixes of each song will be recognized, and the very best mixes will be featured on an upcoming remix album. Those lucky finalists will receive a free copy of said album, and maybe something else, I havent decided yet! :)

If you dont have our album, you can navigate to
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/blacksoil2 and listen to it. Or you can buy it so I can buy my wife more ice.

The contest starts today. You may remix as many songs as you like and enter as many times as you can. Entries will be judged on creativity, skill, hotness and more creativity. Happy remixing!

By the way, the response has already been dope--close to 30 cats have signed up and downloaded an aca pella or two. One guy has even turned in a really, really DOPE entry--in less than 12 hours! If you have any questions not answered above, feel free to get at me!

Remix Contest Deadline

Post by Rahlo » Thu Oct 07, 2004 3:46 pm

Yo,

I forgot one important piece of information.

The deadline for entries is November 1 at 11:59 pm Central Standard Time. That gives you a little over three weeks to hook up the freshest, most bodacious remix your skills can conjure up!

Oh, and at this writing over 50 people from various countries, republics, states and protectorates have thrown their hats into the ring.

This is turning out to be so DOPE--it ain't even funny! 8)

REMIX CONTEST UPDATE!!!

Post by Rahlo » Sat Oct 09, 2004 1:18 am

contest update: we currently have close to 70 people entered and 11 entries received. The official contest end date is Nov. 1st. Make sure you have your finished entry encoded in High Quality mp3 or aac format and in our hands by then. We accept email, IM transfers, and whatever other means you can think of. We're real flexible.

Also, please READ THIS: You MUST have your name and the title of the song you remixed in the title of the finished product. For instance, if you remixed l.o.s.t and your name is rahlo, you'd email me a high quality mp3 or aac file entitled: rahlo_lost.mp3

It's imperative, for the sake of organization, that you do it this way.

by the way, a few of the entries are hotter than hot!! Nice going everybody!

hit me or level with any questions

i have listened to soooo many remixes even now that I honestly don't remember. Say bro, link me to it again and I'll listen to it right now. Or better yet, if you're done with it, email me a high quality mp3 with your name and the name of the track in the title.

do it soon bro--i wanna check it out!

Smutek,

Thanks, man. Life is too short to go through it being an a**hole, though many of our species would have you believe otherwise!

There's nothing I like better than a remix contest! You've got mail, Rahlo :) 'It ain't the shadow' struck a chord with me, as it were. Very cool lyrics, bro.

Hey yo, that's why we do what we do, right? To try and reach people with our art! That's the highest compliment you could pay me man, to tell me that one of my songs struck a cord with you! Thanks!

Yooooooooooooooooooooooo! I got your email! Very, very nice rendition of "it ain't the shadow!" Very interesting take on that song. I like it a lot man. It's one of the more different sounding remixes we've gotten so far. I dig what you did with some of the vox!

Nice work bro!
