Slice to midi crashes every time

I have Live 8 running on two computers...a Toshiba laptop (WIN XP with 1G RAM) and an HP desktop (WIN 7 with 8GB RAM). Every time I try to slice a loop to midi Live gives me the error..."A serious error has occured. Live will shut down after this message box has cleared." Live does more that shut down...it crashes the computer. Blue screen of death followed by a crash dump. And it happens on both computers every time. Any idea what could be the problem. Thanks.
