Live UI top or flop ?

Post by rikhyray » Mon Oct 11, 2004 11:09 am

Seeing somebody here saying that Live`s skins are not good surprised me. There are 101 things I miss in Live but their design is for me absolutely top. Ableton is Armani of software for me, simple elegance with lot of intelligence behind. When I think of Cubase "puff barock" - pure insult to any esthetic sense (which was another factor I hated using it till SX came out) or Cakewalk Mcdonalds esthetics, Abletons Live was truly revolutionary. I am not Live fanatic too often aware of the limitations. But it is a fact that when I shift between SX and Ableton, Lives very look of the screen is a pleasing, the clarity, in an instant I know what I am going to do, while with the other I have to take some time, move things, slide "+""-" faders etc, etc.
I suppose Ableton knew what they were doing and decided that less is more (though right click would be good ) but when I think of it in the end I am more efficient thanks the simplicity of design.
It is pure curiosity why I ask this question, would like to know what other users think of Ableton esthetics and ergonomic, to me it`s design is No.1 of all software ( actually it is only program with esthetic appeal) .

to me its spot on.... i dont see the reason why we need 3d gui's with fancy faders and all that crap.. i bet the gui on ableton also takes less strain on the gpu etc.... i love the single screen with access to the whole lot.. and intergration with audio editor..

i think session view can get really really wide tho..... would like to be able to scroll it from the top by dragging left or right like all the other views .. every time i want to go from trck 16 or summut to 1 i have to go all the way down to the bottom of the screen and move the bar...

but other than that PERFECT!!!
there used to be a well cheesy "sig." here

I love the software - hate the GUI. What happened to WINDOWS?? Being able to MOVE THEM AROUND and DETATCH THEM? When using the VST's why can't I MOVE THEM BEHIND THE MAIN SCREEN and SWITCH BACK AND FORTH? Jesus Christ, is it really so hard? And while I'm on a rant - WHAT HAPPENED TO THE RIGHT MOUSE CLICK???!!!!
