Ableton 8.1 keeps freezing/closing out/huge problem!!

Im using ableton 8.1 on a pretty new macbook pro and everytime im in a project..if i do something that requires a lil more cpu power...ableton freezes and closes out. I didnt have this problem with the previous version. When i try to reopen ableton..it says A SERIOUS PROBLEM HAS OCCURED and then closes again. If i get that message..i can open ableton after but then it will reopen my last project but to the last save i made.

It does this when i freeze, flatten, consolidate, add new midi track, importing a new audio track, etc. Basically everything ableton is suppose to do no problem.

Here are my specs for the laptop...

15" MacBook Pro
Mac OS X Version 10.6.2
2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1067 MHz DDR 3

the things you're describing don't happen on Macs.


Seriously though, do you have a copy of one of the previous versions installed?? 8.0.5 or 8.0.8 etc?

If so does it happen with those?

I didnt have this problem with the previous version

were you using that version on your new Mac?

Also, have you emailed [email protected] with your logs?

ive used ableton 8 since it first came out on this laptop and i havent had this problem till i updated to 8.1...ive never seen this SERIOUS PROBLEM message pop up when ableton crashes till 8.1. ableton has crashed on me...but never to this extent and never so many times in one session

i have been having this problem off and on from version 6 up til now. try changing your preferences to wav or aiff and the bit depth. also clear out your cache and temp directories. take a look at your crash log and see if there is a certain file that ableton is having a hard time reading. its weird cause it will say a file is corrupt in the log, still load then when you go to consolidate, crop, crap, freeze, flatten and whatnot the app craps itself without undergarment protection.

grouping or (prior to 8's release) sub routing seems to magnify these types of errors.
