Whats your opinion on the Sennheiser HD280 pro headphones?
Re: Whats your opinion on the Sennheiser HD280 pro headphones?
Have a pair here, love 'em. Full bass, good imaging, comfortable to wear for long periods of time, and once broken in and learned are good enough to mix or master with, if absolutely necessary. Of course there are better headphones out there, yet they generally cost more than $100. Good studio phones.

yea im trying to learn them cuz i would like to pre-mix with them. Is the bass contrived at all, how flat are they do you know?

I've used my pair almost every day for the last 5 years, and I don't plan on replacing them any time soon!
Pros:
-EXCELLENT sound quality. After getting used to my HD280s, EVERY other pair of cans I've tried sounds like muddy ass.
-Full mids, crispy highs.
-VERY comfortable, durable, lightweight.
-VERY affordable for the quality.
-Great external sound dampening.
-Fold flat to fit in a bag.
Cons:
-The headband plastic is brittle. It fractured after a year because of a weak point. I fixed it with tightly wrapped electrical tape, and it's been fine since.
-Bass is a *little* lacking, resulting in my headphone mixes way too bass heavy... But that's what subs are for.
-Headband might be a little tight at first if you're not used to it.
-Earpads need to be replaced (after 5 years), but it's only like $20.

I have a pair, the only headset I've ever owned where I actually did a bit of research before I bought it.
Can't remember what my findings were now, though...
I've had them for some years - probably something like 4-5. I think they're pretty rugged, I must have thrown them on the floor quite some times now, and they haven't suffered. The coiled wire has dealt with prolonged stretching for a longer period, too, and it's still as good as ever.
The bass spectrum is very good, so good that I prefer to listen to bassy tunes on that set rather than on most speakers. I'm not sure that's a good thing for a beatsmith/producer/mixer, though, because I've been working on tracks that had a mix of low-frequent sounds that were neat and clear sounding in the headset, but which sounded muddled and boring in speakers. I don't have access to proper monitor speakers, though. The rest of the spectrum - well, to me, it sounds clear and neat, I can't say anything really negative or positive about it in that regard, it just works. In general, I think the sound is very clear throughout the spectrum.
The headset gets uncomfortable after a while, but it's a long while - like an hour and a half, or so. I really should rest my ears more often, anyway... I believe my tinnitus came from hours and hours of listening to loops in ableton
When you first put the headset on, though, it feels snug, and it is very good for closing out surrounding sounds.
All in all a quality headset that I would recommend to most people. I am by no means neither an audio technician or a hifi enthusiast, however, I just know that I like the set and they've served me well.

What the_planet said!
For 100 euros they are a save deal... plus they have great noise cancelation and therefor are very good for tracking vox, etc.
i love mine.

In my house I always work on music when everyone is asleep. I don't even have monitors or speakers so I use these things for long periods of time.
I agree with someone earlier said about the bass lacking, I have to CD check my mixes but I'm just writing songs so I don't need it to sound perfect anyway!
+1 for tracking vocals or shit, ANY instrument. I used to use them to track drums all the time.

They're great at reducing ambient noise. Personally, I found them to be a bit too tight on my head and uncomfortable. I never bought a pair. If you have a big fat Irish head like me, you might want to test drive a pair before you buy.
