So how do we demo max4live?
So how do we demo max4live?
I can't test any max patch in demo mode with the 8.1 suite? I taught I read some thread about that, but all I get in demo mode is empty max folders in instruments, audio and midi.

you need to download max, install it and find a livepack in it's support folder.
You will get a number of devices, but currently the presets are broken. The devices work still.

presets work fine for me
Re: So how do we demo max4live?
presets are broken if you are running the current release of live and max - you need the beta of live to get them fixed supposedly. as of this posting, that is...
mine are broken.

M4L magically appears as soon as you install Live8.1 and Max5 . The M4L devices are buried in a misterious folder in the Max5 application-folder. You evoke the magic by either buying a license or going into the demo mode in live.WaveRider wrote:yeah where can we download M4L?pepezabala wrote:you need to download max, install it and find a livepack in it's support folder.

Re: So how do we demo max4live?
I hope the distribution of Max For Live and Live will be ironed out better down the road so issues with Max don't cause issues with the current version of Live and we have to reply on Betas to work with current versions of Max for LIve (and vice-versa). While it's great that Live can run versions in parallel, I don't get the impression that Max can so if we upgrade Max (thus Max For Live), we are stuck in a sense as the stable version of Live may not support the stable version of Max. I could speculate on how this could be done but I'll end up with my foot in my mouth.

Re: So how do we demo max4live?
my presets are busted too. i've been looking around and it seems this might be fixed with the official 8.1.2 M4L demo release. M4L works fine, but presets have ?s next to them.earsmack wrote:presets are broken if you are running the current release of live and max - you need the beta of live to get them fixed supposedly. as of this posting, that is...

I was told by Ableton to try the repair library function in the preferences under library. It worked for me. 8.1 they were broken. 8.1.1 they worked but showed the funny broken icon. The repair library worked for that.

If you want Max, download it here.WaveRider wrote:so I need Max5 distributed by someone else to install M4L???? I did not think I needed the whole Max5 at all... so we pay it on ableton site but donwload it from someone else... ok then... I'll try to demo it sometime, thanks
Once you have downloaded and installed it, you can run it as a demo.
If you want to be able to use it from within Live, you must purchase Max for Live from Ableton.
If you want to be able to use it outside Live, you must purchase Max from Cycling'74 or a retailer.
These two options are independent, in the sense that you can exercise both of them, or either one without the other. However, if you want both of them, I believe you are currently better off if you purchase Max first, because then you get a discount on Max for Live. Also, it is often less expensive to purchase Max from a retailer than directly from Cycling'74.
