I didn't even know scsi was still around - especially for notebooks - do you need an adapter for it or will it only be for laptops that take it?
the other question I have is how much performance will a 10k drive add - given one of the guys from a *reputable* music software company told me not so long ago that a 7200 drive doesn't make as much difference as you'd think and you'd actually manage quite ok with a 5400 - he would have been talking mac only BTW
I personally have an internal 7200 in my PC laptop but often just use my external FW one to keep the heat down inside

yea i'm going with an 80GB 5400rpm drive with 16MB cache.
every test i've seen shows a 7200rpm 60GB with 8 MB performing only a few percent better. plus the two drives cost the same, and 7200rpm drives cap off for laptops at 60GB.. i need the extra 20GB space more than the 3% better write speeds.

i think what it is is i see the cache of a HD like a buffer, and others see it like memory. the cache is faster than the physical drive itself - so to me bigger cache means less latency. those who see it as memory figure you're going to use well over 16MB of sounds in Live so it will constantly be emptying and refilling the cache. of course that leaves a giant hole in why 8MB cache HD's are so much more prefered to 2MB cache HD's, and do perform better. which is why i see the cache as a buffer, and not memory. =)
