Pls Help me to connect my Dj Mixer to LIVE.

Hi Guys im very New to LIVE and very exited about it. I need to connect my Pioneer DJM-500 Mixer to LIVE and use it as a MIDI controller to Dj, if is possible. I know you can connect the DJM-800. My DJM-500 dont have a Midi IN/OUT but i was wondering if there is any type of MIDI input/output converter cable or interface, unit, or something... that make it possible.

If it doesn't have MIDI or MIDI over USB I/O, then you cannot use it as a MIDI controller.

use a midi controller within live and route Ableton's audio into one of the line inputs of the Pioneer.. otherwise, there is no other way i can see..

the list is endless. depends on how you want to use Ableton.. and bear in mind the serato/ableton collabo.. are you using straight vinyl/CD's or using a DVS system?

wait a few days and ask the same question as the winter namm (music trade show in u.s.) is on and i'd say there are going to be a a lot of new products out

i use pioneer cdj-1000mk3's. but if i use Live to dj i wont be using them. i was thinking on using Live to Dj and control it with my DJM-500. but i guess is not possible. it seems that i need to get me the DJM-800 to dj or the APC40 looks like a very kOOl one. Thanks alot for the advices. Wheres is the Winter NAMM ? i mean what city, state?

yeah djm 500 has no midi, if i was you i'd stick with the cdj's to mix but thats just me.

i know CDJs are great! im just very courius to try LIVE with a dj mixer. and now i know its gotta be the 800.

no problem, but there are quite a lot of options for you depending on what you really want to use ableton for that might suite you better
rather than spending all the cash on a pioneer djm 800... there a good mixer but there not really the most reliable.

i have 2 Pioneer CDJ1000 mk3's, pioneer DJM-500, EFX-500

I have another question. Can i use a M-BOX 2 Mini to Dj with Live in order to use my Headphones for the Cue ? and how do i set it this up to use Live internal mixer?

you can use it but i think it only has 2 analog outs.. ie: Left + right
you would be better off with another sound card because some sound cards can't map the headphones to a cue out but i don't have one to try out.

1.go to the preferences menu in ableton
2. select the audio driver for the mbox( asio if windows core audio for mac
3. click on the output config underneath this menu
4. if the is only 1/2 mono 1/2 stereo you wont be able to use the mbox on it's own( if the headphone port shows up on there the select it so it's on)
5. turn on the I-O (in-out) so you can see you input/ output on you audio channels in live and select 3/4 on the cue channel.

are you on mac or pc?

if your on mac you can make an aggregate device very easily to use your internal sound card with the mbox.
I do live shows using 2 sound cards so i have 14 outputs into a mixing desk.
you can also do it on pc but you can get latency between the 2 cards.
