Hi, I've just bought Ableton Suite!

Hi all,

I'm a brand new Ableton User, I bought a LaunchPad controller in Dec and it came with Ableton Launchpad edition which is totally locked down and limited so I upgraded to Live8 a few weeks ago, but found a lot of sets I try to open that I've downloaded from tutorial sites don't work because most use the Sampler or the Operator instruments, turns out it was cheaper to upgrade to the suite version and get all 10 instruments than to buy just the Sampler and Operator instruments so happy days!

Hopefully I will get to grips with Ableton and general music production (been DJ'ing for 5 years and a huge music fan for a lot longer). I've always wanted to try production, but nothing has got me really inspired till Ableton came along, I spent years watching videos about Ableton and different things you can do and eventually decided to take the plunge, I've used it a bit but not near enough yet, I'm looking forward to hours of "fun" editing samples, creating my own samples and hopefully eventually produce a half decent track or two!!!

Well thats me, thought I'd say hello, will have a read around on the forum whilst I'm waiting for Suite updater to install; i'm looking forward to this next adventure, and probably annoy you with loads of "silly" newbie questions, but hey thats what a community is for, to share knowledge, hopefully one day I'll have enough knowledge to help others!

Thanks, Matt.

Like H2Only said, read the manual. I personally think it's one of the best written manuals I've ever seen and it answers most of the questions you might have. So take a night off and read the manual - it will save you from lots of trouble and frustration.

Have fun with your Live and welcome!

I remember being in your exact position about a couple of years ago. The only piece of advice I can give you is “don’t give up”. You will want to smash your computer on various occasions from frustration but DON’T DO IT. It all eventually starts making sense.

For me, it is just now starting to make sense but I have only been taking it seriously for about the last 6 or 7 months. Before that, I was to extent discouraged.

It’s a fun hobby, good luck!

Do yourself a favor. Stay off of the forums. It's a Black Hole! It will suck you in and never let you go. Welcome, and good luck.

Cheers fella's, sounds like a lot of fun!

Just downloaded and installed the latest version 8.1.1 and got all the Ableton Instruments, got loads to learn and play with, hopefully it won't be too hard, it's all good fun and with some luck and determination get something that I'm happy with and ask for some feedback!

Hola brand new user as well... after years of arm twisting my brother got me to buy live 8 suite. One of his selling points turned out to be a feature in closed beta  (the set/project sharing feature). bought a Akai APC40 because I am a pretty tactile guy and as my brother said "you will want the *tweedly* knobs"

Good luck, I have to admit to being more than a bit overwhelmed by it all.

oh.. and these forums are totally a black hole

that was great, you remind me a little bit of a punk Peter Davidson (4th Doctor Who... thats a compliment in my book btw).

Some serious tweedly knobbing going on there.
