Warping a track that doesn't start on the first beat...

Post by AlexMC » Sat Jan 16, 2010 4:16 pm

As per the thread title, I need to warp a track that doesn't start on beat 1; I'm having difficulty setting the start marker and subsequent warp markers. Is there a specififc, simple technique to achieve this, please?

Set the 1.1.1 warp marker at the first solid downbeat and warp from there, once you have warped the whole track from that point forwards just set the start position at -32 (for instance) in the sample properties of the clip (immediately to the right of the ''warp" button).

Thanks for your response! I had just discovered the same advice at this Youtube video, too:

I hadn't considered moving the 1:1:1 marker to somewhere beyond the actual start of the song...

I'm setting up the original version of Fleetwood Mac' 'I Loved Another Woman' in a track in Ableton to assist me in recording a cover version. I'm warping the track ever so slightly so the two versions will sync.

Once I set the 1:1:1 marker at the start of the 2nd bar, I was able to set the clip start marker to -1; I still had to add 50 warp markers (in a 90 bar song) as the tempo varied quite a bit, from 118 to 122.

It's perfect now, though... listened with the metronome and it's all lined up.
