Midi setup with Numark M1USB? HELP!

I've just bought a veginner mixer to use with ableton and am having problems wetting this up.

The mixer connects via 2x usb for in and out.

I have managed to setup the sytem so that i can here the source material via my amp but am unable to setup the midi map as the program is not recognising buttons I press?

I've searched the forums with no joy.

Can anyone advise me how to make ableton respond to buttong pushing on my mixer.

I've already answered my own question...its not midi. ebay job as opened packaging...gutted
