OT: Organizing yourself
OT: Organizing yourself
Any advances on a good old page per day diary?
I am blown away by how much shit I got to do and how many people I have to keep happy... not only on a daily basis but to plan for through the whole year...
I am swamped. I keep going back to a diary but its always hot and cold, I remember and forget to use it. I once was able to keep a picture of my week in my head and make it happen but these days its just insane. I have to be looking at the whole year as well as each day in order to not always be on the defense/putting out fires all the time.
Got yourself sorted?

Re: OT: Organizing yourself
I used to keep a daily to do list, but honestly it seemed to cause more issues artistically that it solved. To often I'd stick to the list and not my muse, and after a few months I felt it was just slowing me down.

Re: OT: Organizing yourself
each phone has a calendar. for the important things, i use that (synced over myphone and outlook and such to everywhere where it could be of importance).
but most of my stuff is fairly chaotic, and should stay that way.

+1 for google docs and calendar. I use them everyday and they keep very organized!
Re: OT: Organizing yourself
Bring a number-cruncher by profession, I "manage my life" using Excel ~ I love being able to customize a model to suit my exact needs, and have it all - time management, financial, goal-setting, creative workflow, scheduling, etc. in a format that suits ME. As I head into my mid-fifties (and having survived the '60s, '70s, '80s, etc!) I just can't retain all that I need to in my mind, so I find myelf annotating more and relying on organizational techniques such as my Excel models to "keep all those plates in the air.!"

Re: OT: Organizing yourself
I think there are personality types involved here
Me, I am disorganized and dislike it
BUT I have much more raw creativity than all but the rarest person who is balanced and blessed with BOTH
Even without organizational skills ( which we creative types should perhaps gently foster - no shoulds ) I am a natural. But I admit, being orderly would help.
A block buster book deals with this The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
But deep down inside, aren't you a little "suspicious" of those organized types?

Massive +1 for Google Calendar.
Also, for about 18months now, ive had a page in a notepad i keep around with me which i write jobs needing done in pencil. I do a job then rub it out. Its now an obsession of mine to have a nice blank page, so im motivated to do the jobs. I also break bigger jobs down into their smaller parts as it makes them more tackle-able.

I wish I had a cool website to add here...
