Connecting Kaoss Pad 3 & ableton???
So, having rarely worked with hardware effects, so I really need help connecting my Kaoss Pad to ableton. I'm using a "M-Audio Ozonic 32 key Firewire Midi Contoller" which has a built in audio interface and I would like to know how to set up the ins/outs on a Ableton track to get the processed audio from the KAOSS pad going to the master outs in Ableton. I'm sure this is really simple... however my knowledge on this subject is limited.
The M-Audio M-Audio Ozonic has 4-ins/4-outs options in the ableton prefrence.
in the back it has:
4 1/4" analog outputs
3 1/4" analog inputs
see a picture of the top and back here:

I tryed to play with that but I really need someone to walk me though it.

Would you rather use your Kaoss as a Send effect or do you want it to effect ALL audio as in, through the master?

I want it as a send effect.
(i.e. send a vocal clip to a send/return track for KP3 effect)

Is your KP3 set to the Send mode?? If I'm not mistaken, there are two different modes which judge how the effects are utilized in the KP3. One of them sends both the original audio through with fx. The other is purely wet. Setting this can have a big impact on the overall effect.

I have tried both modes, also tried paying around with the, external audio effect in Ableton's audio effects -> external audio effect. I am having trouble in one or more of these areas; How I connected the KP3 to the o-zonic, my Ableton audio preference ins/out configurations, a track's ins/out configurations, or external audio effect.

Determine which outputs you want for Master. Lets say "1/2". These outputs on your device will then go to your mixer/amp or whatever.
This leaves "3/4". On your Return A (or whichever one you choose) insert an Audio Effects Instrument and have the output set to "3/4". Have your 3/4 plugs from the keyboard go into your KP3's stereo inputs. Then have your output from the KP3 go back into your keyboard on 2 of your jacks. I am not sure if those would read as "1/2" or "3/4", you would have to experiment. This is what you would set the input of the External Effects to.
Theoretically that should work. Although there are a few other ways you can try (for instance having a return's output go to your KP3, and then your KP3 feeding into an Audio Channel. This would allow you to use dummyclips
).
I hope this gives you at least a little progress...
If it doesn't work, try the most basic setup you can think of first, like having your Master go out to the KP3. Then keep improving until it works.

Re: Connecting Kaoss Pad 3 & ableton???
Hi all, I'm also struggling with a good set-up. What are the options and who can help me out there?
1. Basic chain setup (without using the sends). Route the output of the master channel in Ableton Live through the KP3 (plug the L/R output audio cables on my motusoundcard, which first went into my mixing table, into the input of the KP3 en plug in the L/R output cables of the KP3 to my mixer)?
2. By using the the sends on the channels (for example send A), then make a return track and add a audio effect "external audio effect" to this channel. Set the input of this external audio effect to the outputchannels of the KP3 and set the output of the external audio effect to the inputchannels of the KP3. And set the output channel of the return A track to "sends only" or what?
3. ....
What I want:
- Syncing the BPM with Ableton Live as a master (can this be done by USB? and if so, how?)
- Cue/preview the KP3 effects before using it
- Set the KP3 effect on a individual channel in Ableton live (with sends) or use it on all channels at the same time (master)
I've a MOTU UltraLit mk3 firewire soundcard hooked on my Macbook Pro with the Ableton Live Suite 8.1.3.
Thanks for everyone would can help me out there!
