8.1.1 users, Pops and Clicks, can you make them happen?
8.1.1 users, Pops and Clicks, can you make them happen?
I am using 8.1.1 on a PC running Windows Vista, and I am using a firewire interface. I am having problems I did not have prior to 8.1.1.
Using a sample rate *higher* than 44.1k is where I see these problems most readily, when Live's CPU meter is running 30-50%. Adjusting the buffers does not help this problem.
Simply adjusting the interface, resizing it, opening and closing various panes, clicking on the borders of the interface panes to adjust them. This causes crackling. It happens most readily in session view.

I also have increased crackling and popping of audio with even lower cpu usage. Everytime you click something on the screen it will do it. I have not been able to pinpoint it to anything in particular and it doesn't always happen either which makes it difficult to pinpoint. I usualy restart my computer and generally it stops.
On live 7 I did not have this issue. I'm hopeful a future update will address it.

I only have them with ReFx Vanguard when alternating the BPM or when freezing the start/end 'could' have clicks.
Unrelated to the buffer/freq settings, as far as I can tell.
2008 Macbook with OCZ turbo ssd.

Pops and Clicks, Clicks and Pops!
You've seen my threads on this so I won't go into it. But that there is now a rash of these Pops and Clicks issues is bizarre and unsettling.

This is my experience, yes. It seems to happen most when you resize the panes, when clicking on the borders of the panes to 'grab' them I can get it to happen consistently.brycebsp wrote:I also have increased crackling and popping of audio with even lower cpu usage. If I resize Live's window or open or move some vst's editor windows I sometimes get clicks and pops.
In fact sometimes I get them for no reason at all.
It's intermittent and not repeatable.
Live 8.1.1, Win 7 X64, core 2 duo 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gb Ram, Emu 1616m.

If you are using Windows, try turning down your "hardware acceleration" slider under the advanced properties for your display settings (troubleshoot tabs). The easy way to check is to simply disable your video card (it will revert to VGA) and then try your window resizing etc. If that is it. then re-enable and adjust backward the hardware acceleration one click at a time until your good.
I just commented on this problem and finally found the solution. It was tremendously annoying.
I suspect this is your problem since it's tied to "Windows" activity.
However if you still have problems, go to the site http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml and follow instructions.

Re: 8.1.1 users, Pops and Clicks, can you make them happen?
I've recently discovered that I cannot change 'buffer size' in mid session...
clicks.. pops...distortion..and also crashes can occur...
so I need to change the setting .. exit live.. re-open live and the project...
another thing I've noticed. since I got m4l..
is that it screws up my midi drivers each update...
so after an update.. I need to unplug all midi devices ..
run the 'MidiFixUtil'...(from m-audio)
then reconnect..
(win7)

I`m getting Pops & Clicks while doing just simple things like opening a vst or dragging a clip into live from the browser!
I´m really pissed!

thanks, this makes sense, contention for hardware resources, i will try this.dancerchris wrote:If you are using Windows, try turning down your "hardware acceleration" slider under the advanced properties for your display settings (troubleshoot tabs). Re: 8.1.1 users, Pops and Clicks, can you make them happen?
I haven't really had any pops and clicks for the last several update versions of Live. I think that those are def related to Vista's crappy management(priority) to video rendering. I attribute my "success" to when I switched to the Indigo IOx last year. Maybe the express card slut is less troublesome? And of course, one has to de-activate all the fancy video bells and whistles in Vista's Aero. I took it several steps further and disabled ALL the software that I never use, to free up resources. e.g.- webcam, firewire, internal soundcard, ethernet, modem, etc.

Re: 8.1.1 users, Pops and Clicks, can you make them happen?
well, i tried it. long story short, reverting to VGA made the pops and clicks go away. Yay. But, when I turned the adapter back on again and go to the troubleshoot tab, the "current display driver does not allow me to modify hardware acceleration settings". Re: 8.1.1 users, Pops and Clicks, can you make them happen?
Turning it off has identified your culprit. Now you just have to find a solution. Sounds like you have a real basic video card if there is no acceleration features. Have you tried newer driver, update? Anyway, play with your video options is the answer. Have you checked for IRQ conflicts with the card? Are you laptop or desktop?
