Syncing two laptops with Live 8

Post by Aum NZ » Fri Feb 12, 2010 11:32 am

Hey i was wondering if anyone out there would be able to tell me the best way to sync two laptops in a live performance situation so that one of the laptops becomes the master and can control tempo and program changes using midi? Is there a way to have the Ableton session accessible on both computers? Could something like this allow one laptop to be using Ableton and the other laptop to be using a program like Reason 4 but synced or rewired into Ableton 8? If any of this is possible what is the best connection type or cable to achieve a stable reliable result and would anyone have any idea of how to set up something like this?

Any feedback would be appreciated very much as we are putting together a huge live set which is to be performed in a matter of weeks and so far we have been rehearsing with one laptop controlling beats, samples and structures and another laptop running reason 4 dong live synths and FX but if we could integrate/sync both computers together perfectly in time things would be a lot easier especially if we can have the Ableton session open on both computers.

Thanks from New Zealand

I use a midi cable, one slave, one master and finetune the latency on the soundcards :)
