Am I trippin'? Track solo ignores automated mutes?

Post by nowtime » Tue Feb 16, 2010 7:48 pm

Seems I've rendered tracks a million times using the track solo function. Automated mutes were always recorded into the render. Now suddenly last night (8.1.1) when the track is solo'd the automated mutes are not making it to the render. WTF - am I tripping? Did I have one too many?

(Live 8 was beginning to act very strangely and buggy last night.)

i would be surprised if the solo button had any effect at all on a recording or rendering.

i always thought that ableton considered it as akin to on a physical desk - effecting only playback monitoring. e.g. not available as an envelope, etc.

?

is this a solo vs. cue issue maybe? (inadvertently changed to cue mode?) are you rendering the master out while having a solo button engaged? i have never tried that.. just curious about your post

Yeah I always render via the Master and soloing the track I want . How else do you do it when the track has automated sends? You can't choose to render the individual track because the send effects won't get printed. Or will it  I should try it.

Anyways, if there is automation of mutes, they get cancelled by the solo. That's fucking stupid. I have to resample the track in realtime. I will try rendering the individual track, see if it prints the effects.

It doesn't.
But, if you mute all other tracks instead of soloing that one, it will render as you want, i think.

We shouldn't have to do that. It should just work. That's why you pay money for a product like this.

The insane routing issues really need to be fixed too. When using complex routing it's nearly impossible to solo individual stuff without something weird happening somewhere along the lines. Both for printing and monitoring.
