Dropouts using mbox 2 with ableton?
Dropouts using mbox 2 with ableton?
Does anyone know how to fix this? I've been screwing around with the preferences and keep getting dropouts. I'm really new to this stuff and just want to start recording. I'd really appreciate some help.
Re: Dropouts using mbox 2 with ableton?
The drop outs should not be related Live.
Have you used this with Pro Tools yet?
I had the same experience with my MBox 2 and for now, have it tucked away in a closet until I upgrade my computer as the cause for the issue (for me) was hardware incompatibility. You see, my drop outs were experienced in ProTools LE and Live.
The next thing to do is to check your buffer rate, sample rate, etc...
A lot of audio interfaces react differently than the MBox 2. The MBox will simply drop the sound if the buffer is exceeded and I find that using and instrument plugins via midi is the quickest way to experience audio dropouts.
Again, double check to see if you experience all the same problems with ProTools and if you do, then contact digidesign if it's anything other than increasing your buffer.

Well the thing is my cpu isn't really compatible with PT. I have a turion processor. That's why I'm using Ableton instead of PT. Is that the problem?elxicano wrote:The drop outs should not be related Live.

Re: Dropouts using mbox 2 with ableton?
hmmm... i had an mbox 1 that suffered from the same issues. i eventually gave up and gave it away. upgraded to an m-audio firewire. this wasn't that reliable, either. currently using an Apogee Duet and Mackie Onyx. both are reliable. zero drop outs.
Re: Dropouts using mbox 2 with ableton?
Like, I can get the test tone better and better, but I can never get it constant. I'll try upgrading to the 8.0.4 drivers earlier. If not, craigslist it is.

Unfortunately, yes... this is the problem.briolate wrote:Well the thing is my cpu isn't really compatible with PT. I have a turion processor. That's why I'm using Ableton instead of PT. Is that the problem?elxicano wrote:The drop outs should not be related Live.

You can use any host you like, but will experience the exact same issue as you would with ProTools or as you are with Ableton.
Don't mean to rant, but this is my biggest complaint about Digidesign. There's very little reason for anyone to understand and know system compatibility until after they've purchased, installed and then found out it doesn't work right.
Also they don't explain well that the incompatibility is a hardware/hardware issue between the MBox and your computer. It is not a software/hardware issue between ProTools and your computer.
Keep in mind that an Mbox 2 really is a great way in to ProTools, so if you can keep it until you upgrade your computer system, then this would be a good option. If you can't, then keep in mind that hardware tends to have a decent resale value... As for now, definitely do your research and ask for users' experiences with products you are interested in.

Totally. PT has been a total bust for me. I've been dealing with this since early december. Problem after problem. I'm just ready to sell this thing and move on. I really want to just use ableton and a decent usb interface that will work well with it.
Re: Dropouts using mbox 2 with ableton?
Wow. I downloaded and installed the new 8.0.4 drivers and it works perfectly. So stoke right now
. Thanks for your help though guys.

Mine that's collecting dust is still on 7.4, so maybe that'd be my fix?? Oh, well... I'm not going to chance it. April is my goal to buy a new system, so every penny will go into that since it will be a dedicate audio machine. patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue.....
