Audio problems in windows 7

Post by ud dude » Sat Feb 20, 2010 8:06 pm

I have windows 7 ultimate on a new system with a focusrite saffire pro.

Audio playback seems to work just fine in my pro-audio software such as Cubase, Live, and REason.

No sound at all from itunes, w. media player, and vlc media player, and youtube.

I previously had sound in itunes- but itunes gave an error message saying " Itunes not installed properly, please reinstall i-tunes if you want to burn or rip CDs". I did that re-install and since that time I have no audio at in any consumer -audio apps. The meters (in windows control panel) show audio going from itunes to saffire but no sound comes out. Still no playback problems in the pro-audio softs, but I need to use itunes and you tube.

I have not yet installed my video editing software (vegas) but I hope that will work.

Please help.

You need to go to the Windows 7 Control Panel / Sound and set the default playback to Line Out, Focusrite Saffire. Works fine here.
MacBook Pro (MacOS 13.0.1) i9 Processor, 32gb RAM, 4tb SSD
(STUDIO I/O) MOTU UltraLite mk5 (w/ADA8200), (LIVE I/O) Behringer X Air XR18
Ableton Live Suite 11 (Live performances), Studio One 5 (Studio Stem Creation)

Here is some more detail on my problem:

Hi
I have encountered a problem getting the focusrite up and running on my new windows 7 system.

I am running windows 7 64 bit ultimate.

I have installed cubase, reason, and ableton. All of these pro audio programs seem to handle playback just fine, (I have not tried recording yet)

I cant get the Saffire to accept audio form any consumer audio applications (itunes, vlc media player, firefox, you tube, windows media player.)

If I go into control panel >>> hardware and sounds>>>> manage audio devices and set Saffire as the default device, then I can see in the meters are sending audio to the saffire but no sound comes out. There are 5 different choices called Saffire Pro ready, but If I try to switch to a different one then itunes freezes and when I restart it there is no lights in the meters.

If I switch the default to Realtek high definition audio (the built in sound card) then itunes will play back through there, but it seems that no matter what I do , I can not get it to play on the saffire pro 10/10.

Mean while the pro audio software plays just fine through the saffire.

I think itunes played fine through the saffire when I first installed it- I did a reinstall though (64 bit version) because each launch of itunes gave a an error message saying something like " itunes not installed correctly please reinstall if you wish to burn or rip cds.

The workaround is to have the on board audio connected to one set of monitors for consumer audio apps, and the saffire to an other set of monitors for pro audio apps. This is not really practical as I should be able to hear all my software through one set of monitors .

To Further the problem I wanted to see if disabling the realtek audio would improve things. When I did this is just disappeared from the control panel - How do I get it back ?
