Question re: PadKontrol vs Maschine

I have not posted in a while however often lurk and learn.
I'm in need of pads for incorporating hand playing and controlling a virusC with pads.
My Korg Wavedrum rev1 as amazing as it is, does not output MIDI in quite the same way.
I've been considering a pretty big purchase this tax season, and I want to do it right.
I know it's a subjective thing, but I wanted to get some feedback from this forum that I respect.
I use Numerology and the new beta allows control with a launchpad. I'm considering getting a launchpad just for numerology (dedicated).
For pads I am torn between the Maschine and PadKontrol. I can get an academic Maschine for $395 so it's not price that I'm worried about: just the quality of the pads.
Finally I'm considering an APC40 for moving myself between session and arrange view: my achilles heel.

Thanks for any advice on the logic of my thinking, and whether you would recommend this setup. I am especially interested in padkontrol vs maschine thoughts, and whether you think it would be overkill to have the LP for numerology AND the apc40 for live.

Where did you find that price? I found $449 at audiomidi.com:
