Guitar Tuner in Live or Free-Plug-in?

Post by sdmiddleton » Sat Feb 27, 2010 4:01 pm

Hi Folks,

Was wondering, unless i missed something there's no easy way to check your guitar tuning when plugging into live right?

Can anyone recommend a good free and reliable plug-in? (Or even a dashboard widget or iphone app would do as a last resort?)

Cheers all!! :D :D :D

nope. not in live, and as far as I could see no good free plug ins for tuning your guitar. There is a good tuner in guitar rig.

a while ago you could get free version of Guitar Rig trough Native Instruments' website. Of course it's very limited compared to the full version but it does have the tuner, so I'm using that right now. Not sure if it's still available though.

You can always download the demo version of Guitar Rig 4, which allows you 30 minutes use each time you run it in demo mode. (you can then use it on tracks, freeze/flatten and get the use of the effects too, until you buy it outright).

Put it on an insert, arm record and away you go. The best software tuner I've used (not to say I've tried that many)...

Cubase has a guitar tuner built in, but it's more frustrating to use than Guitar Rig's tuner.

On a Mac you do not need a Guitar Tuner.
Garage Band has it. So if you do not mind switching to GB for a couple of minutes...
you do not need anything else.

Begin Kidding
Even if you have removed GB from your Mac,
upon connecting your guitar, Tuning happens automatically.
Because a Mac... Just Works.
End Kidding

Live emits a 440Hz Tone that you can change.
If you know the frequency of notes then you can change them and use it as a tuner (Diapason-Like)

Or, if you're doing it by ear anyway, you could just set up a clip and have operator/sampler/whatever loop through EADGBE until you're done.

Exactly 5 years after your 1st request it's finally here. The Ableton team is so into listening their customers!
Respect, very quick move guys!
If they work on that rythm we should have the ability to edit multiple midi tracks on one piano roll in 2018.
Only 3 years to wait...
