slice audio to multiple audio files?

Post by ayanami » Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:54 am

looking to use ableton like recycle, want to quickly chop loops into fixed grid increments (1/8, 1/16 etc) FOR EXPORT.

i know you can do this internally and create corresponding midi clip, but i want to export the sliced audio into another app.

i also know you can do this by setting the region and cropping the audio clip, but looking to avoid duping the clip 16x's and moving the crop region for each slice export.

checked the mfmanual, saw nothing.

ayanami

the one work around that i know for this is

- slice to midi
- right click on chain title bar within the drum rack
- choose extract chain from drop down menu .. this will take the chain containing simpler/sampler out of the grouped chains and will isolate the midi note in that chain
- freeze the new isolated chain(s)
- flatten them to audio

go into the sample folder of your live project and in the processed folder you will find either a freeze or flatten folder - your audio files should be in there

have you tried using soundflower? free download - look it up man

if you mean into your live sample library then ...

select "file" from your live menu at the top of your screen and choose "manage files" from the drop down menu

a window will open on the right of your abe set

from here select "manage project" and at the bottom here is a button which allows you to export to library

hey buzby thanks for the reply. that technique works sort of, it converts the midi slice to audio at the desired fixed grid increment, but unfortunately the flattened audio after freezing is kept at the original 1 bar or 2 bar length and would require additional cropping to arrive at the desired 1/8 or 1/16 slice.

appreciate your time and attention though, very cool.

oh yeah - did nt realize that

try taking the loop off the clip and placing the start markers at the start and end point of the midi note - then freeze and flatten

lots of work if you have to do this to lots of clips but is this more what you are looking for ?

+1 a 'cut audio at warp marker/transients' would be great. I did need that function yesterday. slicing to midi is nice too, but different tasks needs different tools.

A "slice to clip" feature similar to "slice to midi" would be nice. I was trying to figure out if that was possible too, hmmmm. I'm trying to organize my mess of a drum sample library into a single "drums" project session view, a kick track, snare track, etc etc, filled with individual clips. That way I can build new drum racks dragging clips to pads pretty quickly. I also am importing sounds from external synths and wished I could slice a long wav file to individual clips, or export to individual wavs quickly. Ended up just going back and using Recycle for this :) Would love if anyone has a way within Ableton to accomplish the same.
