A couple of questions from newbie...

Post by duncaaan » Tue Nov 02, 2004 10:57 am

Well, I'm a potential newbie. I use Reason, which I love, but really like the look of live and want to run Reason with some audio loops and a couple of vst instruments.

Now, I'm thinking in terms of bang for the buck, I'm going to plump for Reaktor Sessions (as I'm an existing dynamo user). I was wondering how well these run together and what sort of cpu load I might run into.

I'm currently running a P4 2.4ghz with 512 of Ram, but I'm thinking of upgrading the motherboard and either getting a p4 3.2 or an athlon or even a brand new amd64. My main concern with sticking with intel is the infamous "denormal" issue.

Anyone care to let me know their setup and the sort of perfomance they're getting with reaktor session?

Thanks for your time guys!

Duncan

Ain't a PC user...(yet) but you could try downloading the full demo and see how it all functions for yourself

Thanks for that! But I've already got the live demo, and will get the Reaktor Session demo later.

What I'm looking for are pople who are currenlty using both and I want to know what sort of perfomance they're getting with their set up. I'm looking to upgrade and want to work out the best way forward... AMD or Intel?

Thanks again!

I recently helped a friend build a new PC setup for his studio. We decided to opt for an Athlon XP 2600 with 1GB ram (running in dual-channel mode). Can't remember the board I chose but it seemed to have everything including gigabit ethernet and firewire. After several weeks of use he is very happy with the performance, saying it seems hugely quicker than his old P4 1.8 setup in every aspect. He currently uses FLStudio and Sonar plus a bunch of instuments, none of which have caused any problems whatsoever as a result of running on AMD.

great stuff! Thanks for the reply... I'm keeping my options open but i'm sort of veering towards the AMD...

Anyone else want to chip in (pun intended) from the intel side?

Thanks
