Which T-RACKS compressor would you reccomend getting first?

Post by re.mark » Mon Mar 15, 2010 6:13 pm

Going to delve into the IK T-Racks world soon, but want to just get one plugin to try first before I start getting bundles..
Cant decide between:

Vintage Tube Compressor/Limiter model 670
Opto compressor
Classic T-RackS Compressor

Any reccomendations??

the 670 is awesome but it slams your computer, the opto is great too and its rough on the computer. the opto is pretty clear while the 670 is more "colorful". i would recommend the opto compressor first if i had to pick one.

agreed, with above-- 670 is cpu hog, and IMO doesn't work in every situation.

Opto is great, kina pillowy. I would use it for pads and vox, but not drums.

Personally, I'd use the classic first since it's the most versatile. That being said, they're all dope in their own ways.

you better try the demos first, IKMM stuff tends to crash live

otherwise they're very good plugs

hi there! i would try out the ableton comp until i know it inside out and then i would get the other third party comp that complements it. just test them all and hear for yourself what you need. i´ve done it like that and decided to pick the 670 and the opto. both give me some behavior i can´t get with live´s own comp so fast. the 670 is really great for colouring. you could have similar results with a combination of live´s dynamic tube- comp and saturator plugs. there is a lot of potential. but if you don´t want to spend time on this get the 670! hope that helps, good luck and have fun, alex

Cheers for the help so far - had completely missed the demo links on the pages haha, so will definitely give them a try.
Ive used the Live compressor almost exclusively for about 18months now, and feel live I've out grown it and want something a bit beefier now - at least in instances that require beefier compression ;)
Big fan of the Live Saturator - and cant have a project with it being used multiple times, never been able to find a use for dynamic tube though, even the presets do nothing for me...

I use the 670 for vocals and like it a lot. But if it's on 2 or more tracks Live gets sloooow.

I have the 670 and the Classic, but i avoid IK plugins these days because of random crashes with 8.1
