controling padkontrol parameters from live

Post by flippo » Wed Mar 17, 2010 1:33 am

this possible with midi feedback? has anyone seen it done?

I'd like to be able to control the min and max roll tempo from Ableton with CC messages.

won't be the end of the world if I can't but it would be verdy naice.

not sure if possible, but yeah that would be cool.
you know you can control that from within PK tho dont you?
stray fromnative Kontrol has a little tutorial for this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnSRWk_o ... re=channel

yeah It's not too hard to do it that way I guess. It would be much easier in a live situation to do it from a clip with midi out, though. I can just see myself being much less likely to adjust it manually on stage/in the booth.

Even better, synced to master tempo - but I think that is much less likley!

Can probably use some midi quantizing effects on the drum racks of given hits and control it that way, but I think i'd prefer to just do it manual from the PK in that case perhaps.

yeah thanks mate - I'm aware of the usual way to control the roll/flam tempo in the PK. What I'm trying to do is have it be done from within ableton itself from a midi clip. I tend to throw the tempo around a lot, and would like to not have to worry about dialing in a min and max several times through a set.

Not the end of the world, but I thought I'd just check if anyone had any ideas :)

when I say I want to control from ableton, I'm not talking about the X-Y pad itself, I'm talkinga bout the maximum and minimum values.

for example - playing a song that is at 170 bpm - I might want the minimum roll to be 85bpm and max to be 170.

If the song is at 128 bpm, want the min roll tempo to be 32 bpm and the max to be 256 bpm.

Actually I don't think you can go bellow 40 bpm, but you get the idea :)

rather than use the Roll function, you could keep that button switched off and instead use an Arpeggiator device, with X mapped to Rate (invert the min/max values to mimic Roll) and Y mapped to Target (with the Velocity switch on).

either use Sync, or use this delay calculator when in un-sync'd millisecond mode to still have it in time but with no beat division stepping:
