overdub - recording live drum kit

Greetings all, I am trying to record live drum tracks. I am starting w a basic shaker pattern in one clip and using that as my timekeeping element.

Since I am playing kick and hihat I cant use a foot pedal to start and stop recording. Is there a way to count in say 5-6 measures where you listen to the other loops going on and after the count in record just 1 or 2 measures and loop that? With 2 people this is easy. Thanks for the feedback.

Dunno if there is an automatic way to do it. If you don't have a lot of tracks, you can set the other loop samples to 'loop' in clip properties, and then drag their length on the arrangement view as long as you want, acid-style, and they will loop as long as the track is playing. Then don't loop, just record a long session, and chop out the best of the drum loops that you get to a new clip.

dunno what I was thinking... of course there is a (slightly) easier way, which is sort of the below, but automatic. Go to session view, set up a scene with the loop clips in each track in the scene, + 1 for the recorded audio. Set the audio to record. Start recording. The loops will play, and the audio will record, and you can let it run as long as you want. When you're done, the audio track will not be an short overdub loop, but will have been recording the entire time the loops were playing, and you can still just find the best part and extract it.

This is what my band does to record. We can get entire tracks from a few great 8 bar pieces.

Thats what I am currently doing. I am trying to speed up the process by not having to "extract it" I read you can specify the length of time to record. Then just loop the specified length?
