hey all,
i have just rewired the computer and studio again and i am now experiencing a couple of issues with these two new pieces of hardware i have added a dr770 and an Alesis perforance pad.
First problem is a i have a boss dr770 sunced with ableeton clock runs beautifully with no timning issues.
Ok so the first problem is that i feed the outgoing midi patterns from the alesisw and dr770 drum machine back into live tio route to any vst drum bank.
live receives the patterns ok except that there is always a delay in the notes being played on the vsti in live compared with the external drum sounds on the dr770. Somewhere the midi pattern are being slowed down resulting in the lag. i have aslo tried it with an Alesis performance pad we have and the pattern note sent out by that are also delayed so its isnt anything to do with the outboard hardware dr770 or alesis.
I havent found in settings in live that will allow me to adjust the incoming lag.
Any ideas >
best

options-preferences-midi
go to the port were the device is connected and click on the right facing arrows. this opens the menu for the midi clock settings. set it to a negative number.
get a metronome running on Live and the outboard box and adjust the clock until they line up.
for bonus points you can sample the external metronome and use those samples as Live's metronome, that way you can get the clocks REALLY accurate as they'll start to cancel and flange as they get close.
In my life

Tone Deft is right on. Here is a blog post where I walk through this step-by-step. In the examples I'm using Tenori-On as the example for the input device, but the appraoch will work with any external MIDI device.

Hey just getting back to this.
ok just to clarify live and the outboards metronome ( sync) are perfect. What i am expereincing is a midi delay coming from the dr770 output midi notes going back into live and playing battery. So i,m using the Dr 770 to play battery in live
There is a cosiderable gap between the the notes played in the dr770 internal sounds and the ones being played by the same midi note data within live playing batterry. I have tried adjutsing midi sync delay on the input side and also track delay on the track but nada ?

I'd write to Ableton support copying and pasting your e-mail
after they're done sorting out Max4Live issues someone might get back to you ....
Seriously - they are usually good and the more info you provide, the more helpful and speedier the response should be.

Hey looked at your blog ( well put together).
i was already fiddling about with the track delay - but it seemed to make no differnce at all in terms of shifting the midi incoming note data and i mean nada - did nothing at all. What am i missing hear
The only work around i have at the moemnt is to go to sync out on the corresponding sync out track adjust the sync delay to -65.
This is not ideal as althought the midsi note data is now iin sync the drum machine itself is not.
Any other ideas anyone > ?

So i beleive that you are saying that the track delay ( in my expereince ) will only work on pre recorded midi clips and not live midi data streaming into live ?
i can certainly get the track delay to work on precorded midi clips but it has no influence in my case on live midi data ?
