There is a vid or two on youtube where they go and interview some dubstep artistes, must be from a while back. As far as i culd see they were al public school toffs.

'Oh ya, My names Rupert otherwise knowns as Zengha and like, I make dubstep, you know?' 'It's really cool, Charlotte takes all the photos'.

for what it's worth, Dubstep seems to be going down the pan a little: No-one has extolled the virtues of not having a good kick to me for ages ("Yes there's bass, BUT WHY ARE THE DRUMS GONE!?!"), and it's no longer in the BeatPort popular genres ;)
Some stuff, and some other stuff. Honest.
Currently on a huge and mostly pointless promotion drive, come play:

IMO 95% of it turned to shit 2 years ago  . The gold years of 2004-2006 are long gone it seems. Branches styles have breathed some fresh life into house and techno, though! but you don't really hear that at dubstep nights, it's generally just trash wobble rinseouts for wasted kids these days. I went from being booked interstate under the dubstep banner to distancing myself from gigs within a matter of months really, it happened that quick! The crowds and vibes completely changed for me.

I still make some stuff that I think resembles dubstep, I just don't bother to call that since the collective definition of dubstep has generally shifted and narrowed significantly.

It went a bit like Big Beat, didn't it?

First it was Blockrockin' Beats then suddenly it was Would You Go To Bed With Me. End genre, next!
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

I find dubstep went mainstream, but went completly up dnb's and jungles ass. all the popular dubstep is just a compitition to make the biggest wobble bass.

as with most music that achieves some sort of mainstream status, the most popular tends to be the most stupid.

that said, as with any genre, if you take the time to look under the mainsrteam, there is some really wonderful stuff.

A genre is pretty much past it's prime when you can talk to somebody who isn't a DJ or producer about it and they know exactly what you're talking about.

It's turned to complete shit when it's the headlining genre in the DJ tent at a festival.

Will cuntstep have wet squishy basslines and a kick drum that sounds like a queef?
