No sound from sampler(soundfont)
No sound from sampler(soundfont)
Hey. I am trying soundfonts in the sampler for the first time. The sampler is recieving midi signals. I am not getting a signal out though. Any help or Ideas? Audio still works fine

turn record on so that monitoring is enabled.

Track is armed. Record on transport is on.
No dice. Its weird. Because I drop an audio sample into sampler and its no problem.
I can see the wave form, and zones when the soundfont is loaded. Im getting midi into the sampler but nothing from the signal chain out.
Can you suggest something else?

try to click the "zone" button on sampler's device title bar - this will bring up the zone editor which determines the key and velocity of midi notes played
you will be able to see if your midi notes are within the key range - if they are nt they you obviously will not get any sound

Re: No sound from sampler(soundfont)
on the zone view, can you verify that the midi notes that you're sending match valid zones?
maybe there's some mismatch in octaves or something. if it's a small sampleset at least.
everybody puts C0 at different places.
for imports, though, I find that kontakt imports always screw up the sample volumes. On the sample page, try a couple samples and make sure they are set to reasonable volumes. Also make sure it imported reasonable values for sample start/end and loop start/end (if applicable). Less likely, check the filter/global page for the vca envelope/master.
I have found that importing into sampler is fraught with danger for the few things I've tried - not that it's much different for any other sampler either; my E4 had the same problem importing akai and roland, had to touch it up afterwards. Well, it's actually not bad - usually it's just touching up sample volumes etc. But i've had better luck just playing the kontakt patches in kontakt or kontakt player (don't have kontakt yet, but KP works well enough for auditioning or studio work).
That to say that if this causes too many problems, iirc sfz+ plays soundfonts natively and is free, and you can run it as a VSTi. I have it, think I've done that once, but don't have too many soundfonts so haven't really played with it.

Re: No sound from sampler(soundfont)
I had this problem today. I found that re-naming the folder the files where in seemed to fix it, there where dashes and underscore marks in the sample containing folder and removing them fixed the playback issue.
