After a 6 hour set last night..

....Live held up pretty well. I noticed a couple of brief audio drop-outs when auditioning clips, but only on later tracks, like 6-10. Before the gig, I dropped M-Audio a line about the Firewire Bus. Here's what they said:

"This is a known issue with a number of FireWire drives, apparently they fight with certain other devices for control of the FireWire bus and this can cause specific problems with audio. We are currently working with other manufacturers on a fix for this; in the meantime, you can work around this problem by connecting the FireWire 410 directly to the computer and connecting the FireWire drive to the additional FireWire port on the back of the 410, this should work fine."

Out of interest, I didn't take their advise, having tested it this way and experiencing major problems. I rolled straight out of the G4 into the HD and then into the FW410.

Err...nope. They said go out of the Mac into the FW410, then into the external HD. I've been going from the Mac into the external HD, then out from this into the FW410..

It goes against the grain, but seems more stable right now. I'm sure once the issues regarding the firewire bus are fixed, I'll be back to the usual method. I've just downloaded the next OSX update, so this may help..

I have to have my Firewire Audiophile connected to the pc laptop and my lacie D2 drive to the back of the Audiophile, otherwise it's a bloodbath...
