APC20 features for APC40

Ableton explained that the APC40 was a simple midi controller
with ableton software adding its functionality to promote stability.

my $0.02...

the box has to be designed to be field upgradable to begin with. that means it has to have Flash RAM and a connection between the USB receiver and the Flash with a chip in between to negotiate the transfer. there's no editing software or even a hint at editing software, this tells me that the box was never designed to be field upgradable.

it's Akai so any number of screw ups are possible, which includes making a follow up product to the APC40 with some new features that ticks people off because they aren't in the APC40.

all this ableton controlers ar just stupid faderboxes all theire functionality is done with abletons controler template.. it goes even further.. the controler acts like a dongle.. the controler template only can be accsessed with the controler physicaly conected.

This is the right forum

Ableton got into bed with Akai and talked heaps of sexy talk and took customers money. Not cheap either.

AFAIK:

Ableton made statements about how the APC40 was a simple midi controller = stability.
Stability because this would allow ableton to control the software side of things.

Plus ... I find it hard to believe that the APC20 was not on the cards when the APC40 was being developed.
If it wasnt then that is not good news either.

Unless they make a statement about this then we must assume its a business ploy = POOR FORM.

maybe they learned on the APC40 then got more creative with the APC20. who knows, Akai is Japanese for 'heads up their asses.' Ableton is German for 'bit off more than I can chew.'

mainly note mode. it's pretty cool the way they doubled up some of the features. I have a BCR for encoders, I'll probably sell my APC40 for an APC20, someday.

they are trying to make you buy the APC20 for your APC40 to use the combination mode...

apc40 has some unique features
apc20 has some unique features

akai hope you'll buy both

apc40 is prob the worst purchase i made...

I now would have been better off with just a novation and some kind of dumb faderbox

To make the things worse there is support for the APC40 in Live 7.0.18 but not for the APC20. So you cannot use the Ableton LIve 7 and the APC20 together. That looks a bit strange and customer unfriendly to me. It would be very nice to know if Ableton will add support for the APC20 for Live 7 in the future or not.
