Hard Drive Read/Write Speed questions

Please someone enlighten me. The read and write speed a hard drive can do is definetly a cornerstone of Live's performance right? I just bought a solid state HD 120gb, read and write speed is 280mbs. I have not opened it yet and i am wondering if it is worth keeping.
