Clip envelope not working in session view?

Maybe I'm really dense here. I could use some help.

I have impulse on a midi track, with a clip playing a simple drum beat. After Impulse I have a grain delay. I when to the clip's envelopes and edited the spray parameter on the grain delay to do what I wanted.

The problem is that nothing happens when I activate the clip. I tried volume/pan envelopes and those work fine. I tried other plugins and none of them work

Am I missing something really simple here?

check the setting on spray in the grain delay device, meaning whether it is set to 0 - 500ms etc etc as this will determine what will happen coupled with your automation

ie - if the spray is set to 0 and you draw an envelope in your clip from 100% down to any value below 100% then nothing will happen - etc etc

see what happens if you set your spray in the device to 500ms and then draw an envelope in the clip from 0 up to 100% ... now you should be able to hear some change
