We need a list of the 3rd party stuff that works well

Post by HeadrickProductions » Tue Mar 30, 2010 4:09 pm

Maybe this is a crazy request. I did not realize until recently that the reason that ableton programmers are having such issues is the 3rd party plugins and harware. If that is the case they either need to limit the number of plugins that they allow or they need to just give us a list of the ones that work well and do not cause the program to crash.

As well we should be told which hardware is causing alot of the bug that they see in their reports. I don't think this is unreasonable. This is fact should settle alot of the problems. It will allow folks who are concerned about stability some guidelines to insure stability for live performace. In the studio it might be frustrating to have issues but not nearly as serious as on stage, club, basement, or my personal favorite STRIP CLUB DJ's (can't get the bounce bounce jiggle if their ain't no sound)

Something like a tips for live performance section. Just trying to come up with ideas that will help the situation as opppose to just bitchin.

Hope things work out

Why don't you kick things off by listing the ones that DON'T work for you.

you really need to chill out. you hear about a problem and you flip out.

this list is impossible. they'd make it and someone would have a problem with something on the list and they would be more posts like this. you want a list? make a list of what's not working for you.

take macs, standardized hardware non-standardized user experiences. same with Live's plug-ins, some people can't get Looper to work.

what specific problems are you having?

I only limit myself to komplete 6. In the beginning I had issues with battery 3 when simply trying to open it. Other than that I don't really have issues with plugins that cause it to crash (at least I don't think). I personally don't think that massive has been causing crashes but since so many other folks have said that their is a "massive" bug then I am sure that I've had that problem as well.

the hardware that I use to perform live is on the signature....

I really was not wanting to make this another bitch fest.

What I want is a list of things that are causing live 8 to crash consistantly so I can either stop using them, or never consider buying them. Pretty straight forward

 just my reaction after reading your back and forth with Dennis.

forums can be awful forms of communication. apologies for any misconceptions. :D

I read this that you've heard that there are problems now you've taken a great interest in hearing about ALL of them. you do seem fired up.

there's debugging problems and then there's inventing problems, ya know?

by all means rant away, it makes my copy of Live more solid.

I don't think there was any misconception here.

I really was not wanting to make this another bitch fest.
Then quit bitching.

For the record, I use Battery 3 and Massive quite a bit and I haven't had any problems with them and L8. Actually, I feel like I had more problems with Battery using older versions of Live (6,7). I realize this doesn't help you, and it sucks that you're having issues. But, no matter how many times you post on this forum today, tomorrow, complaining about your instability issues, or requesting stupid shit like 'limiting the number of plugins they allow', it isn't going to fix things any faster. Tone Deft was right. CHILL OUT. You read a comment by someone at Ableton about how many of the bugs are related to 3rd party plug-ins, and then 2 minutes later your at the top of the forum requesting a list of 'working' plug-ins. Do you really think they have that list? Do you really think they are going to take time away from fixing the problems you're having to create that list? Would you really want them to? Quit being a spaz and STFU.

Sorry.

I have an Italia "Mondial" guitar that works really well with Live. This week I will change the strings though.

You can't say a plugin works or doesn't work universally in some cases.

For example, I might find that, say, Kontakt 4 or whatever, works fine. That would be on my PC setup running Vista Extreme under a Core2Duo processor and the VST version. A guy on a Mac running the AU version could have a different experience. As could a guy on win XP, win 7, 64 bit o/s, 32 bit o/s, and whatever other hardware combinations - sometimes things such as certain graphics chipsets have been known to crash plugins.

If you are stating what does or doesn't work, you should at least note the conditions under which you work, i.e. PC/Mac, o/s and o/s version number/SP number, vst or au, processor type, amount of ram, plugin version number, etc.

If it is a problem, abes customers should be advised about the issues relating to the 'unnamed' plug.

I believe the principle behind naming 3rd part plugs that are causing issues with Live or the other way around is sound.

Given the 'Live' nature of the program a dodgy plug-in / Live relationship can be extremely serious. I've had Live 8 crash mid-set probably due to the Fab-Filter bugs. When I found out through trawling the forums I removed the plug-ins (p*sser as they are my favs).

However, I think it would 'politically' cause problems and lots of finger pointing between Ableton and the manufacturers concerned with a possible knock on effect on sales of plugs causing problems.

Relating to another relevant post, I've used Cubase for many years with 3rd party plugs with very few issues and it pisses me off considerably that there are so many with Live (many of which do not get fully sorted like the NI issue with changing peramaters/presets within the NI HUD)
MacBook Pro, Mojave, Live 10, Logic Pro X, UAD Apollo & Satellites, UAD, NI Komplete, Izotope, Korg, Audio Damage, Fabfilter, Waves plugs.
