Trouble with axiom49 rotary encoders & live8, HELP!

Post by Philpeters » Wed Mar 31, 2010 4:31 am

If you have a spare 5mins and know what i'm on PLEASE help!

I am using a macbook w/ Live8 suite and an axiom49 which has some problems: The rotary encoders have pulled a funny.

If i don't map them to anything then they act as pan control and work fine. But I've been testing them by mapping them to various things (auto filter, delay etc.), thats when things turn weird. when turning the knob, the value you are trying to change seems to oscillate back and forth between a point but won't go all the way to either end of the range. Although if you're lucky one or two of the knobs might work fine, but then you map them again to something else and they're doing the oscillating thing again.

The axiom is on preset 18 and i've got enigma but haven't the faintest on how to use it. I REALLY don't understand midi CC numbers and channels etc etc etc I just like to make music by pressing buttons so if you could explain it as simply as possible that would be great!

Cheers everyone,

Phil the drummer

Try to change to preset 17. It's generic one as far as I remember.

If it doesn't work try to change midi cc for all 8 encoders to 146 (this is increment/decrement mode), should behave ok after you set this.

Hey thanks for the advice. Preset 17 just made everything worse though. The volume faders became inverted, and when I mapped the knobs they got "stuck" to one end of the range when trying to adjust the value.

I'm back on preset 18 again with the same problem as before and now i'm going to have a go at changing the midi cc's to 146. But how do you do it? As I said I don't know how to use Enigma, and I don't want to make things worse by toying around with it without knowing what i'm doing. So if you're able to walk me through it step by step I would really appreciate it!

Thanks a lot,

Phil

Do a Panic on the axiom ( read the manual) if not reset all the presets and recharge with enigma, if you want to map try channels 1-17 the other are automaped to Live chek as well the axiom tutorial on live is on the website for download

I don't own axiom anymore but as far as I remember to set midi cc on encoder you should do following:
1. Move encoder which you want change midi cc for.
2. Press "Ctrl Assign" button (somewhere in a row of buttons under lcd screen)
3. Enter 146 via numerlical keypad
4. Wait until lcd stops blinking and that's it

and simply repeat this for all encoders.

Remeber to store current settings in some preset (press "Store" and enter number of preset) otherwise they will be lost when you switch power off.

You can always rollback all presets to factory settings (hold "Store" + "Recall" while switching power on).

I hope that helps.

I don't know what was happening in preset 18 because yeah the cc's were already 146 and they seemed to work sometimes and then not work. Weird.

Anyways I managed to get it all working in preset 17, drawbar mode was activated on preset 17 before thats why it was acting a bit funny. But it's all working sweet as for now.

Thanks heaps for your help bro, I'll no doubt be posting again pretty soon as I suck at all this technical stuff!

Cheers,

Phil
