Happy Easter!
Needed a little help here. I have ableton 8 and will be buying Session Drums in a few weeks. I want to get an electronic drum kit to use in conjunction with this. Are most compatible? im looking at the lower end of the price range at the likes of Medeli DD501, Ion Pro Session etc. I run Ableton 8 Live on vista 64 bit and processing power/ pc spec is not a problem.

Any kit (or anything at all for that matter) that transmits MIDI notes should work fine.
Currently using a Roland TD-6 with a bunch of Roland Acoustic triggers, and also a Roland SPD-20 with no problems at all

The cheapest stuff is usually pretty crappy, mechanically. They trigger poorly and break easily.
I'd strongly recommend that you shop around for a used Roland or Yamaha kit. I've seen used Roland TD3 and Yamaha DTXplorer kits for as little as €400 and they're both good quality gear. They outperform all el cheapo kits I've tried by far.
At least stay away from the cheapest ION/Alesis kits, they're really crap.
Do try before you buy if you can, so you know what you're getting.
Also, do consider getting something like DFH or Addictive Drums instead of Session Drums. I use Session Drums myself and though the kits sound great IMO, they're much more difficult to tweak. I don't regret buying them, but I wouldn't buy them today.

I realised I sounded a bit negative above, so I just wanted add that e-drumming with Live is great fun and even the cheapest kit will be much more fun than no kit!
