Why all the static?
Why all the static?
I purchased an Audio-Technica 2020 condenser microphone with a usb connector. The mic works fine when I use it as a default on my computer, but when I try to use it to record into my Live 8 I get a tremendous amount of static in the audio. I bought the usb so I wouldn't have to purchase a preamp.I tried changing the buffering samples in my ASIO4ALL but got the same results. Do I need to return this mic and go with a standard hookup and Phantom power?
Re: Why all the static?
Hi Stan,
do you also get the static while using the MME/direct X driver for your Mic?
Best,
Jörg

Re: Why all the static?
Hey Jorg,
No, with the MME driver I get a clean, clear audio. It is only when I open L8 that I get the static. Should L8 recognize the mic or its driver because it is not listed anywhere in the "audio preferences", however it is listed in the ASIO4ALL "WDM Device List" and shows it as active. Could it be that maybe the MME driver and ASIO4ALL are in conflict? I don't know how to turn the MME driver off. The only thing I have been able to find is a path to disable the AT2020 mic. Of course that took it completely out of the system. My OS is Windows7.
Thanx,
Stan

Re: Why all the static?
Jorg,
Well I went back into the ASIO4ALL settings and changed the buffer size to 1024 samples, which I had done at least 2X previously and it alleviated my problem. Why this hadn't worked before I haven't a clue because I had run the whole gambit of samples. Anyway I opened and closed L8 several times with the sampling at 1024 and had no reoccurrence of the static. Every thing is clear with low latency, except now I am going to have to take the clock off of the wall because the mic picks up its ticking.
Thanx so much for responding to my problem. I do have another post about my wireless mouse not scrolling in L8.
Take care,
Stan

Re: Why all the static?
The static is back intermittently while recording. I'm going to return the usb mic and go with a standard and preamp or interface. Has anyone had any luck with the M-Audio Fast Track?
