Any way to hear MIDI notes while editing?

Post by briggity » Tue Nov 09, 2004 12:40 am

I've been getting into Live 4's MIDI features and it appears to share a limitation with Reason's piano roll editor that I find very frustrating: clicking on a MIDI note or dragging it to another pitch does not cause it to sound. This is a feature I'm accustomed to in more complete MIDI editors like DP, where I can play a note by clicking on it in the graphic editor, and it will re-trigger each time I drag it to another pitch. Am I just missing something in Live's MIDI editor, or should I add this to the feature requests?

Option-Space is helpful (plays back only the current selection) but requires that I make a selection in the arrange window...it would be nice if this feature worked for selections in the MIDI edit window.

you can be editing a loop as it plays, if you go into session view. Just trigger a loop midi clip to play, and double click in it, you'll be able to edit the notes of the loop that are playing...

Sure, you won't be able to hear the sound of the note just as you dragged it, but the nextime the playhead somes to it just after you've edited or creatd a note it will play... If your loop is too long and you find you have to wait too long until the playhead goes around, just temporarily edit the length of the looped portion to feet your needs..

Hope it helps, good luck with da music.
