grain delay question.. please help
hey i want to put a grain delay over a riff but i want to have the grain delay come in first before u hear the riff then slowly bring the riff in. So the effect comes in before the chord. does any1 know how i could do this? any help would be really apreciated thanks!
Re: grain delay question.. please help
Put the grauin delay on a send set to 'pre'. Drop the fader on the source channel and you will only hear the delayed version, then gradually bring up the fader on your source channel to blend as desired, or automate as required in arrange view.

No problem.
You have your source audio on a track, say track 1 (audio-1) now go to your 'Return' tracks over on the right of your session view screen, if you can't see them click the little 'R' in the bottom right margin of Live's UI, also click the little 'S' while you are there so you see the send knobs pop up in the main audio/midi tracks.
Drag an instance of grain delay onto a return track, say 'return A' and make sure the volume fader is appropriate, say -12db. Now above the master fader you'll see some little yellow things that say 'post' click the one that relates to the return track your grain delay is on and it will turn orange and say 'pre'.
Now start your audio clip and turn the Send A up on that track to full. Now pull the fader down on your source audio so it is no longer audible.
All you should hear is the grain delay output on your return track. Make sure the grain delay wet/dry knob is 100% wet.
Now to blend back in your original signal you simply raise the fader on audio-1 at whatever speed you want to blend.

Grain delay has a control called dry/wet. Make sure thats on 100%, the rest of the effect on the initial sound will depend on the other grain delauy effect settings. If these are subtle then you may well still hear something thats very similar to your original.
It may be that Grain delay is not the best effect to have set up like this for the effect you're looking for.
