Does anyone here have any experience using the Pyramix mastering DAW rewired with Live as there is no apparent rewire function in Pyramix.
I'm interested in a dedicated mastering tool for my next major upgrade and this system has some worthwhile upgrade options for future consideration.
I'll be getting the RME HDSPe MADI card and the outboard link for surround production but wish to incorporate efforts made to date with Ableton.
Oh and a new PC as well as this is not a mac DAW

Re: Pyramix mastering DAW
I have a limited knowledge of Pyramix, I was an engineer on some field recordings of classical music where it is very popular, I also was able to demo the Pyramix 6 native version as the north American distributor sent me a demo link (which didn't require the usual copy protection but was quite restricted). Apart from having really great metering and audio editing, I wasn't that impressed by it.
If you want a mastering tool, I would say that Pyramix isn't worth paying the money for, get Wavelab for much less and have access to the audio montage, also superb metering, some nice plugins etc for significantly less. I can't think of too much Wavelab doesn't do which Pyramix does and Pyramix gets very expensive with add-ons. They lure you in with a reasonably priced entry level model, but a lot of plugins and functionality requires upgraded packages. If you bought Wavelab, and bought a few good 3rd party mastering FX your mastering set up is as good as it gets IMHO.
Rewire is not a great protocol - I would rather just render the files and handle them in a second host.

I've not used the rewire function to date so that's worth knowing.leedsquietman wrote:I have a limited knowledge of Pyramix, I was an engineer on some field recordings of classical music where it is very popular, I also was able to demo the Pyramix 6 native version as the north American distributor sent me a demo link (which didn't require the usual copy protection but was quite restricted). The main reason for considering Ableton alternatives for me is surround sound
capability which although not of interest to most, does open up the possibility
for innovative sound structure set ups (I acquired some MIDI ultrasonic sensors
that I intend to set up for outdoor events as part of a live act)
I believe the M4L community maybe brewing something up on the surround front so perhaps
wait and see!
I'm still using Wavelab 3 lite so perhaps I'll take your advice and see
what the more recent version has to offer.
One last thing, does the MADI option on the RME ADI-8QS outboard converter
operate upto 192khz with the HSDPe card? The ADAT is 96 but the MADI option
is not clearly stated.
Thanks for your help Leeds and thanks for the coffee tips Mr Synchro!
