Yamaha Pocketrak CX field recorder

Post by littlepig » Thu Apr 08, 2010 2:49 pm

Does anybody own one of these? If so please could they give a brief review?

These are going quite cheap in UK at the moment (around £99) so I was thinking of buying one... I used to own a Zoom H2 but I found it a bit bulky for carrying every day, this yamaha looks much smaller.

The Sound on Sound review is very positive ... and that is at the original (much higher) price. However, I read elsewhere that it is not so good for field recordings due to handling noise. Anyone got one?

The audio quality of the zoom and it´s mics is slightly better, and it´s nice that you can use it as an audio interface. The battery life of the Yamaha on the other hand is simply stunning; up to 40 hours of recording. You´d be happy if you´d get 3 hours with the zoom.

(my wife has the zoom, I have the yamaha; I would get the Yamaha because of it´s handling time)

I bought one a couple of days ago, quite pleased with it.

Good points I have noticed so far,it's; small, starts quickly, simple to operate, long battery life

As the previous poster said the sound isn't quite as good as the Zoom H2 but I feel the above compensate.
