groove extraction useless?
Just fooled around with it a bit, it seems pretty arbitrary... one transient is right on the bar, and the next one is slightly off the bar, even though if you look at the waveform they´re both identical and should be both right on the bar. any tips?

i have no tips because it is almost useless.
what live needs is tempo mapping badly!
i have been an avid hater of reaper up until about a week ago when i found out tempo mapping is available in it through a set of custom actions. i really hope ableton put free time tempo mapping into live so i can get back to using live for everything.

Could you explain what it is/does?nathannn wrote:i have no tips because it is almost useless.

Re: groove extraction useless?
Live has tempo mapping.
groove is an amazing tool, it's easy to use.
play a loose funky bassline or whatever by hand, no quantization. then play heavily quantized drums over it. extract the groove from your loose bassline take and apply it to the drums. insta-magic.

I don't use it often but when I do, it definitely does as advertised.

how?
unless this is a hidden feature live does not have tempo mapping.
live has tempo warping and ways to adjust a track to fit a grid but no ways to adjust a grid to a track without warping.

its not always that simple.flippo wrote:Tone Deft wrote:Live has tempo mapping.

most of the time you will get hits placed slightly off of the master tracks transients.. this is where tempo mapping would come in handy.

you can map the set's tempo in arrange view, open the Master track at the bottom and open the envelope for tempo.
you can't do it for an individual clip, dunno why you'd want to, it would be a train wreck. but you can move the whole set up and down in tempo.

Re: groove extraction useless?
it's not the random setting that is causing problems is it?
I'll admit I've not really looked into groove in live much apart from a bit of quick playing around; I'm not 100% sure what each o the parameters do.

here is one of the most simplest explanations i could find of tempo mapping.
you really have to pay attention to what he is doing so you dont confuse it with warping.

here is a really good example of where tempo mapping becomes extremely useful

Re: groove extraction useless?
Hes to slow for me, I loose concentration.. (its late) It seems very similar to how Live does it: warp a track, and use it as the master tempo grid.nathannn wrote:http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 8465499507#

But I still don't get what you guys are looking for here?
