mystery midi - APC40, Padkontrol, midi yoke, MAX

Post by flippo » Fri Apr 09, 2010 1:31 am

I'm having some very odd behavior happen with remote mapping and my APC40 and Padkontrol

just some background - I'm running the APC via the trackteam audio's monomulator MAX runtime, and using the included sliders and keyboard presets as remote controls.

MY padkontrol runs a combination of track and remote mapping. For this particular scene, it comes in via channel 4 on a midi track with some racks with midi effects, is then routed to a midi yoke channel via external instrument device, and returns as remote control. There are a series racks with midi effects that send feedback to the padkontrols lights to show the state of certain effects. I've got this particular scene as drum mute, lights flash when the corresponding drum track is un-muted, and they stop when its muted.

After realizing that some of APC40's buttons send out on channel 4 (I previously thought it was all on channel 1!) I had to map the PK so that there was no interference there. However, seems to be some inconsistencies here. For example there is a button on the APC which as far as I can tell should be channel 9 note B2 (Akai documentation says so, so does ableton when I remote map it), however this button somehow is linked to one of my mute pads on the PK which is mapped as channel 4 note A#3? :|

They are feeding back to each other, yet are on completely different channels and notes.

I think I've had similar strange things happening like this, because when working out other scenes on my PK to control parameters I've had to dodge APC40 mapping as well, yet sometimes I swear I've fixed things a few times and I still run into problems. Something odd going on that I'm not sure about.

My first thoughts are that it is midi yoke or MAX that are doing this. Any ideas?

actually I don't think it could be MAX, because then the feedback would only go from APC40 to the PK, not the other way around aswell; the PK does not have a pathway to MAX.

ok......

turns out it was the APC control mapping not remote mapping. It was the devices on/off button on the APC40 that I thought I was having trouble with. The padkontrol feedback relies on turning on and off both the drum sampler and an arpegiator that feeds notes back to turn the lights on; when you mute that drum visa-versa.
