but if you break it down into the areas that you want to learn about, i.e. FM synthesis, or making a kick drum, etc. it's a tutorial.

That tutorial is very useful but would be better if it wasn't split into so many little bits.

I wonder if that person has ever done a similar tutorial for FM8? I've been very interested in FM synthesis lately.

I'll have to check that out. When I bought my DX7 I just read the manual and that about covered it since they were introducing it for the first time. Here's the manual and an article from the 80's called "How to Program the DX7: Understanding and Applying the Concepts of Digital FM Synthesis" by Bo Tomlyn. It's pretty well regarded I guess.

Edit: Funny how I could never get my head around FM7/8 but within 2 days of buying the DX7 I totally got it, and there aren't even any knobs.
