How to setup Ableton to RECEIVE & SEND MIDI from MASCHINE?

Does anybody know how to properly setup Ableton to receive and send MIDI from Maschine?
More specifically I want to record a live performance of Maschine as a MIDI clip in Ableton that I can then edit, automate, etc.

you need to activate maschine's midi I/O in ableton's prefs and then you are good to go and record...

If you want to get programmed midipatterns out of Maschine then you need to set it to "export midi" and then you can simply drag the notes into a Live-miditrack. Just watch the videos for version 1.5 of Maschine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDdN-fS1kA4
