APC40 Note Mode

Post by dna598 » Tue Apr 20, 2010 2:20 pm

Well, where is it? I still cant seem to find it!

Oh thats why......it still doesnt exist (afaik), and I sure aint buying an apc20 anytime. That will be because I expect features that exist in products lower down the line to be present in the more expensive products.

Akai and ableton, what is going on over there? You got your knickers in a twist or what?

I believe that Ableton is considering adding note mode to the APC40 support, but wouldn't be surprised if this effort is being delayed because of their bug-fixing program.

yeah well it should have been on there when it came out. Would rather have bought novation sl and the launchpad together now for sure.

basic stuff missing from the "flagship" product.Makes you feel like a punk.

Implementing it should not be a "consideration".

While im bitching, Ill say that velocity on the next "grid" controllers better be being developed. Pad kontrol is still providing the best clip launch experience IMO. Red Box for PK also please???

Come on ableton stop being picky, open it up a bit.

Dear Ableton,

I purchased an APC40 because i believed that it would be the only way that i could get the RED BOX.

So either give me note mode for my APC40 or the red-box on my PadKontrol.
BTW: I'de prefer that it be a free 'upgrade' ;-)

If the stability of LIve8 is a concern then here is your chance to get some consumer love.
Consumer trust is a valuable asset for any business, let alone a software company.

Here is a thread requesting the APC40 to get note mode.

er, okay, dont really know what your point is to be honest.

If it is that i am asking too much re note mode then i disagree.

Velocity pads on apc and red box for PK is a pipe dream it seems, but i ll wish for it as a "consumer".

Stability has not really been an issue for me. If i did a gig i'd use 7 anyway.

hanz petrov's blog gives details on how create a redline cliplauncher for any control surface. He has also provided links to a library of all the controller scripts- including the padkontrol. So its simply a matter of finding the time to experiment with hacking the scripts untill they work. Fair to say its not something i could do in a few hours though. For a glimpse of what is possible check st8 on monome.org. Stepsequencer inside the control script.

No not at all (everything i do i do for love!), have a look on the Create Digital Music Website for the posts about it, you can create any sized box you want and this has already been acheived for Monomes and the like......

The article details the work done by this forum's excellent Hanz Petrov!!

Having spoken with someone at Akai, their position is that all the APC does is provide midi messages, its up to Ableton to implement anything else!!

Cheers

Thanks for the props guys. Yes, the “red box” is available to any controller – but a customized remote script is required in most cases. As for Note Mode on the APC40: looks like it’s not in the cards (at least not in the short term).

Version 8.1.3 includes scripts for the APC20, so we know how Note Mode works, but a firmware update from Akai would be required in order to get it working on the APC40 in the same way. More detail here: http://remotescripts.blogspot.com/

Best,

Hanz

p.s. Just to be clear: we're talking about native out-of-the-box support for Note Mode here. S4racen and others have done some amazing APC40 templates and Bomes/M4L customization, which provide far more advanced functionality for the APC40.

Wow cool responses!

However being just a layman myself when it comes to coding, and after having glanced over the kindly provided links, I probably dont need to tell you I am scared, baffled, and well, really quite annoyed.(with ableton).

Before I carry on attempting to read this stuff (it won't last long), may I ask is there a PK red box script already written and available somewhere?

yeah. My heart sank when i realised that scripting or max were the main ways of customising the interface. Ideally ableton would have maintained and expanded the user configuration system. It's also lame that customers have to spend time decompiling part of their purchase or trawl the net for decoded files. These should be supplied as part of the product.
