incredibly basic problems with MIDI map mode

hey all

this is an incredibly entry-level aspect of live, but or some reason i just cannot make it work.

i'm simply trying to set a note on a MIDI keyboard controller to trigger the 'scene launch' function. i can set this easily with a keystroke in key map mode, but for some reason i simply cannot get live to respond to ANYTHING in MIDI map mode.

just to reiterate the basics of what i'm doing, i engage map mode, select "scene launch" so it is highlighted/bracketed, and then hit a MIDI note or button on the controller. nothing happens. if i do the same thing in key map mode, i can assign a computer key easily.

i've tried this with an m-audio axiom 25 as well as an akai lpk25. both will play samples from live just fine, but i can't seem to make either one map to anything in map mode.

i've checked the manual, but it more or less says that it should respond to any controller without any hassle.

what am i missing?

sounds like you need to enable 'remote' for that midi port, in the preferences
