Hello-
I have battling with this problem for a few months now and I cannot find a solution. I have a Dell XPS 16 laptop with a dual 2.4 gig processor and 4 gigs of ram. running windows 7x64. My audio interface is an m-audio ProjectMix. I cannot find any help on M-audio's forums to help this issue...so I came here.
It happens like this, I'll just be going along either just listening to the track or recording, and then playback will just stop. everything will stop, but buttons still work. i can press play and stop, but pressing play doesn't do anything. I usually go into the task manager and quit live at this point. sometimes, the computer will crash altogether, momentarily showing a blue screen that goes by too fast to read.
Anyone else having this problem? It never seems to happen when I am not plugged into my interface...so I'm thinking its probably the interface, but it used to work perfectly on my XP machine!!
Thanks.

most likely not ableton per se but a plugin...often helps to delete your preferences .cfg file which is at \\C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Ableton\Live 8.1.3\Preferences. Next time you go into Ableton you'll have to set all your preferences again. If you're using any pirated plugins - get rid of them.
