Pre-cached search!

Post by Deimateos » Tue May 11, 2010 7:15 pm

I'm sitting here, searching for 16 missing samples on one old project, it's been going for almost an hour and a half!! I'm thinking: why doesn't Ableton's auto search function have some manner of pre-caching/database/indexing so you can find files faster? It wouldn't be too hard, just have a option in the files page that lets you index a few folders.

Most people I know have their samples in an set folder directory on their drives, so it makes sense to me to have this feature.

Well, on OS X it'd be nice if it makes use of the spotlight index. Maybe Windows offers something similar.

Just went through of 5gb folders looking for one file... it took 4 minutes! Pathetic... Cubase 5 on the exact same pc takes less than a minute. It's ridiculous that Ableton 8 is so slow at searching.

jup (called windows search :))

and yes, they should use the os-specific search apis, that would be great.

i use windows search instead of live's integrated search all the time. happily, i can dragdrop the search results out of the startmenu into live and use them.

Yes! Chached searching would be ideal.

Chiming in...

Love live.. the search is really terrible though. Whats up with it?

I just had a missing mp3 for a sequence. I directed live to look in the actual folder where I know the file to be. It is named exactly as it is in the track. Why does it take 30 seconds to look through 12 files and then on top of that, come up empty handed?

Sometimes the search works at automatically finding the files it needs... sometimes it gets 70% of the files. It takes way too long. The same search performed with spotlight on mac takes seconds which otherwise takes live minutes and the results are unreliable.

Edit note: might be an idea to be able to tell live to omit certain folders. Currently my Live is trenching through 20gb of application files to find a file and guess what? I can't stop it :|
