Captain Crawl. (http://www.captaincrawl.com/)
It's like google, but for music blogs.
Start searching for something you like, find it, then check the chosen blog archives for whatever looks interesting. If you find something you really really like, then buy it so then poor musicians can feed their hungry daughters.
This may keep you busy for days, weeks, months or years. Happy hunting.

I read The Wire magazine each month. It is like a filter for me that highlights interesting music that I generally like.

http://www.pandora.com <----- Fun, great to let loose when you got nothing better to do than kick back and listen to music.
http://www.beatport.com <----- Mainly geared towards electronic
and I hate to admit it, but starting with a band/artist you like on myspace, just start clickin through friends, found some great tunes doing this, but if you tell anyone I did it, I will deny it to the end.

Re: Where do YOU find new artists and music?
I'm gonna get flamed for this BUT... Pitchfork eventually catches on to most good stuff.
If you don't have time to prowl music blogs in search of the latest track, checking through well reviewed Pitchfork albums in your genre of choice often works. You'll find a lot of rubbish indie rock but more often than not they get the best electronic music out there.
Recent albums to get good coverage include FlyLo's Cosmogramma, Four Tet, James Blake's CMYK and Caribou's Swim, all of which I rate very highly.
