Ryan (Electrocado) and myself built this MIDI controlled drum machine for a uni project. If you would like a copy of the research conducted to take out this project keep an eye on our websites www.electrocado.com and www.mrbillstunes.com. We will be releasing all the information we used and the the process's taken to get to this point!

Essentially its MIDI OUT of? Ableton, Into an MSA-T converter that converts MIDI to Voltage which is attached to 3 solenoids with chopsticks attached to the top of them. Mounted on a home made mechano set!

Cheers,
Bill

Congratulations for achieving this project. You got all my support in your artistic and research approach.

I'll try to make a constructive criticism :
I really enjoyed the main idea behind. It is simple efficient and reminds me of the monkey drummer video clip by Cunningham. What appealed me was the inhuman, automatic movement that was driving us into an oniric space. Good job too on the hardware, and the way you used it. Nevertheless, you achieved something really efficient that I would look into details if you ever publish the research.
I like your approach of sharing your tips among the way. Plus, you seem to be a geeky but modern person, you bring to us another point of view of how to do things and what can be done. More than being useful to the community, you make sure that people are following your artistic journey, which seems to be essential nowadays.

I may suggest that the project deserves a better video. Not a tutorial one, nor another Ableton fanboy one, but a video focusing on the "machinery" aspect of the solenoids. At first sight, it could be wise to abstract the software to promote even better the hardware, as it is the most innovative part of the project IHMO.

Anyway, keep on the good work, continue to flood my brain with your good tracks !

Best regards from Paris.
